A Memorial Celebrating the Life of Laura J. Pizzi

Charlemont, MA - On October 23, 2023, Laura Jeanny Pizzi passed away peacefully in her home in Charlemont, MA, with her loving family by her side.
Born in Ternate, Indonesia, in 1946, Laura was the sixth of 9 children. When she was 11, her family relocated to the Netherlands. At 16, she moved to Boston to help her sister with her growing family. This is where Laura met her husband, Giovanni Felice Pizzi. Laura and Giovanni married in the Netherlands in 1966.
The young couple started their life together in Belmont, MA, where they purchased their first home and acquired their first investment property. During this time, Laura gave birth to their daughter, Priscilla, and two years later to their son, Aldo.
In 1978, Giovanni and Laura left Belmont to become business owners in Western Massachusetts. They purchased the Red Rose Motel and moved the family to Charlemont. This allowed Laura to be home for the family while running the business where she welcomed guests like they were her friends. Families have returned each year for decades. Guests who visited as children grew up and brought their families. They often reminisce with stories of Laura and Giovanni. While managing the Red Rose, the Pizzi's continued to invest in additional properties in Charlemont and Florida, MA.
With the birth of her first grandchild, Laura became an Oma, Dutch for grandmother. From then on, she affectionately became "Oma" to all family and friends due to her genuine warmth and caring. Laura smiled with her whole face and was ever willing to be the target of good-hearted teasing to bring people together in laughter. In her presence, people felt appreciated and loved.
Laura is survived by her children, Priscilla (Chris) Wachter and Aldo (Riana) Pizzi, and her grandchildren, Zachary, Noah, Ryah, and Lucia. She is predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Giovanni who passed in December 2008. Laura would be proud that her kind-hearted qualities live on in her grandchildren. Oma, your memory will endure. You are deeply missed.
